The trade between Bulgaria and Egypt grew by 40% in 2022 compared to the previous year and amounted to USD 828.34 million, Economy Ministry reported after a meeting between caretaker Economy Minister Nikola Stoyanov and Egyptian Ambassador to Bulgaria Khalid Emara.
The past year marked a great increase in purchases of Bulgarian cereals, Ambassador Emara pointed out, as Egypt continues to have a serious interest in the import of wheat and sunflower from Bulgaria.
The meeting also focused on potential cooperation in the automotive industry, energy sources and start-ups. Egypt takes particular interest in Bulgaria's experience in the automotive industry, Emara said: "It will be of great importance for Egypt to involve Bulgaria with its experience and knowledge in various forums and events in our country." Various initiatives aimed at the production of electric vehicles components and software solutions in the sector were also discussed.
"More meetings and joint events with business representatives from both countries are among the most important prerequisites for more joint projects," Minister Stoyanov stressed. He pledged to assist in the organization of such forums and proposed specific initiatives aimed at start-ups from both countries.
