The world leader in the production of high-tech and bionic prostheses, has opened a new production facility
“Ottobock”, the world leader in the production of high-tech and bionic prostheses, has opened a new manufacturing site and global service centre in Sofia. The new investment in the capital is a step towards expanding the company’s production in Bulgaria and creating 100 new jobs in the country. The investment of the German company was opened by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Ivaylo Shotev, together with Mr. Arne Jorn, Chief Operating Officer of Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA and with Mr. Arne Kreuz, CFO of the German leader.
The company, which has over 100 years of history, is expanding its presence on the Bulgarian market and its investments in the country. With the new production facility and development centre, the total investment by Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA in Bulgaria already amounts to nearly 22 million euros. These include the investment made three years ago in a modern plant in Blagoevgrad and the production base and shared services office opened today. The company already employs more than 300 people in its production in Blagoevgrad.
Deputy Minister Shotev inaugurated a new production facility and shared services office of a world leader in the production of prostheses “Bulgaria is a good place to open not only production but also development centres and the investment of a company like Ottobock proves it,” Deputy Minister Shotev said at the official ceremony. He stressed that the commitment of such companies to the development of the technological sector and innovation in the country can serve as an example and incentive for other international companies to invest in the country.
In his words, in recent years serious investment projects of German companies have been implemented in the country and the one of Ottobock is part of them. “These projects contribute to creating new jobs, increasing the competitiveness of Bulgarian companies, introducing innovations and new technologies,” Shotev stressed.
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry added that the total volume of German investments in Bulgaria exceeds 4 billion euros and the jobs created by German companies are already over 65,000, which is a confirmation of the good cooperation with German business.

We see your country as a key partner in our strategic plans for the future,” said Mr. Arne Jorn, Chief Operating Officer of Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA, who presented the company’s vision for expansion in the Bulgarian market. He also pointed out that the company believes in Bulgaria’s potential as a strategic partner.
