The producers of soft drinks and bottled water in Bulgaria have created over approxim. 117 million euro added value in the country's economy for 2022



The enterprises producing soft drinks and bottled water created an added value of over 234 million bulgarian leva or approxim. 117 million euro in the Bulgarian economy in 2022, which represents nearly 43% of the added value in the production of all types of drinks and over 1.2% of the added value throughout the manufacturing industry. This is shown by a study by the Institute of Market Economics for the sector of the production of soft drinks.

For the past year, the enterprises in the sector for the production of soft drinks and bottled water have directly contributed to public revenues in the amount of about BGN 11 million from corporate tax, as well as over BGN 42 million in social security contributions and BGN 8.8 million. income tax of employed persons. In addition, sales of soft drinks in the country generate an additional nearly BGN 260 million in value added tax paid by end users.

The purpose of the study is to provide an up-to-date perspective on the key indicators of the state and development of the sector by examining the overall impact of the companies' activities on the related industries and the country's economy.

"Businesses in our industry directly provide 4,273 jobs, which represents 41% of employment in the production of all types of beverages and nearly 1% of employment in the manufacturing industry. We invest in the development of our employees, while at the same time we try to provide the highest possible remuneration. In 2022, the average annual salary is 33% higher than the levels in the processing industry“, says Zhana Velichkova, executive director of the Soft Drink Manufacturers Association.

The impact of the activities of enterprises in the sector for the production of soft drinks and bottled water can be estimated as the total internal demand created in the national economy in 2022 in the amount of BGN 860 million. The research of the Institute for Market Economy also shows that the industry of soft drinks and bottled water uses local resources in its activities with a total value of nearly BGN 528 million, of which BGN 226 million for raw materials and materials from Bulgarian producers, various external services for BGN 142 million, as well as 46 BGN million for the acquisition of durable tangible assets. BGN 34 million for goods, as well as BGN 79 million for salaries and other activities are deducted from them. The indirect effects of generated additional demand in the economy of economic activity and the invested resources of suppliers of raw materials, materials and services are estimated at BGN 286 million.

Enterprises in the sector create output for 380 million euro, which is equal to 38% of the output in the companies engaged in the production of beverages and 1% of the output in the processing industry.

For the conducted research, the report data from the industry for 2022 were used, when 169 relatively large enterprises with the main activity "Production of soft drinks, minerals and other bottled waters" are actively operating in the Bulgarian economy. Their employment is, on average, twice as large compared to employment in companies producing all types of beverages and employment in the manufacturing industry. In addition, companies producing soft drinks and bottled water generate sales revenue of BGN 922 million in 2022. This represents nearly 43% of the revenue of companies producing all types of beverages and 1% of the revenue for the processing industry in Bulgaria.
