The new Ambassador of Japan in Sofia H.E. Mr. Hisashi Michigami and representatives of the Embassy of Japan visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His excellency and the President of the Chairman Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov discussed the possibilities of activating bilateral trade and economic relations.
Tsvetan Simeonov introduced the history and activities of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasizing on the Chamber's membership in a number of international organizations and the over 200 agreements signed with partners from all over the world. He presented the latest initiatives of the BCCI and outlined the tendencies in the economy of the country. The President of the BCCI shared that nowadays Bulgaria is looking forward to a membership in the Eurozone, the Schengen and the OECD. Simeonov also pointed out that the Chamber was maintaining a continual cooperation with partners from Japan with a Bulgarian-Japanese Economic Council being established at the BCCI as early as 1972.
Ambassador Michigami talked about the opportunities for cooperation with Bulgaria in the field of science and technology, saying that since 2000 Japan had had 20 Nobel laureates in the field of science. Further, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of information technologies.
Tsvetan Simeonov said the BCCI were available and ready to provide assistance to Ambassador Michigami to promote and enhance the trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Japan during the time of his mandate to Sofia.
