The Ambassador of Australia visited the BCCI

Her Excellency Alison Duncan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Athens, accredited to Bulgaria, visited the BCCI and held talks with its President Tsvetan Simeonov.

Focus of the discussion were the possibilities of activating the bilateral commercial and economic relations between Bulgaria and Australia. The meeting was also attended by Ioana Kehlibarova, executive director of the Bulgarian-Australian Business Chamber.

Tsvetan Simeonov presented the activities of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in support of the business, the tax system, the current economic situation and the process of Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen and the Eurozone.

Another topic of the discussion was the progress in EU-Australia’s negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement. The two sides shared common views on the benefits of an open and predictable trade as a negotiation basis for ambitious terms of two-sided access to goods, services and public procurement, as well as on other issues covered by the future agreement. It was agreed that the BCCI, the Embassy of Australia and the Bulgarian-Australian Chamber of Commerce shall jointly arrange a virtual event to present the opportunities and advantages of doing business between entrepreneurs from both countries. The BCCI will further communicate on the date of the occasion.

Days before her visit to the BCCI, Ambassador Duncan was an official guest at Australia Day occasion, hosted in Sofia. Australia Day is celebrated all over the world on January 26. More information on the event is to be found here.
