H.E. Dhammika Kumari Semasinghe - Ambassador of Sri Lanka, accredited to Bulgaria, visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discussed with President of the Chamber Tsvetan Simeonov the possibilities for development of the trade and economic relations between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by Honorary consul of Sri Lanka in Bulgaria - Borislav Sarandev.
Ambassador Semasinghe said her visit to Bulgaria was on the occasion of the presentation of her credentials and she believed that this occasion would mark the beginning of more active bilateral relations. Agreements at governmental level were to be signed, she pointed out, that would facilitate the enhancement of economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Sri Lanka.
Tsvetan Simeonov recalled that BCCI had concluded Memorandums of cooperation with partners from Sri Lanka: with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and shared his impressions with the good organization of the 2009 business visit and forum in Colombo.
Other topics during the meeting were the possibilities of presenting at the Chamber traditional products from Sri Lanka - textiles, jewelry, spices and tea – and the organization of ad campaigns about the options of doing business with the Asian country.
Ambassador Semasinghe advocated that another potential route of cooperation between Bulgaria and Sri Lanka could be the import of labor, specifying that the population of the island state was young and educated and could offer specialists in all areas of industry and services.
