In a working meeting, the President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tsvetan Simeonov and the Chairman of the Bulgarian-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry Savvas Karafyllidis discussed the bilateral economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece.
Special emphasis was put on the expected benefits from Bulgaria's joining the Schengen area from the beginning of 2025. Mr Karafyllidis shared his direct observations, when crossing the border points between the two countries, and confirmed the facilitation. The removal of border control is expected to support trade, to make supply chains more stable, to ensure lower prices for European consumers due to the stronger competition and to make Bulgaria more attractive to tourists.
Mr Simeonov added that with the full Schengen, our country has greater potential for the growth of border areas, new opportunities for the labour market and it is able to make savings from administration and controls.
The Chairman of the Bulgarian-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented a Programme of Activities for 2025, which includes an economic event in January in Sofia, a business forum in February, an organised participation in the Money Show exhibition in Thessaloniki in March and many more initiatives where Bulgarian and Greek partners can participate.
