NSI poll: Business sentiment in Bulgaria improved in February

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI), the results of which were released on February 28, has found views of Bulgaria’s business climate in February largely improved compared with those in January.

In February 2025, the total business climate indicator increased by 2.3 percentage points compared with January.

The indicators were up in the industry, construction and retail trade sectors, but down in the service sector.

The uncertain economic environment, shortage of labour, competition in the sector and insufficient demand remain the main obstacles to businesses in the sectors.

In the industry sector, the indicator was up by one percentage point, with managers more positive about the business situation.

The construction sector indicator rose by 3.7 percentage points, with managers more positive and seeing an increase in the inflow of orders over the past month.

The retail trade indicator rose by 7.8 percentage points, mainly due to retailers’ optimistic expectations about the business situation over the next six months.

However, in the service sector, the indicator dropped by two percentage points, with managers’ assessments of the business situation having worsened, the NSI said.
