NSI poll: Business climate in Bulgaria improved slightly in August

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI), the results of which were released on August 29, has found a slight improvement in views of Bulgaria’s business climate, but only because of an increase in the industry sector indicator.

Previous recent polls by the NSI found a drop in the business climate indicator in December, followed by an improvement in January, sentiment largely unchanged in February and again in March, improving in April and again in May, before declining in June and again in July.

The composite indicator “business climate in industry” increased by seven percentage points in August, with managers optimistic about the business situation.

In the construction sector, the indicator dropped by 2.6 percentage points, with managers holding worsened views of the business situation.

In the retail trade, the indicator was down by 6.8 percentage points, with retailers more reserved in their assessments and expectations, while in the service sector, the indicator dropped by 1.8 percentage points, with managers more unfavourable in their views of the business situation.
