According to preliminary figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) released on 15 February, inflation in Bulgaria stood at 0% in the first month of this year.
Compared to the last month of 2015, there were increases in the prices of food products and soft drinks (0.8%), alcohol drinks and tobacco products (0.5%), entertainment and culture (0.1%), restaurant and hotel services (0.3%).
At the same time, there decreases in the prices of clothing and shoes (2%), furniture, domestic appliances and home maintenance (0.4%), healthcare (0.1%), transport (1.7%) and education (0.1%).
The prices of housing, utility bills, messages retained their levels from the previous month.
The prices of the following food products increased in January – rice, flour, bread, pork meat, milk and yoghurt, yellow cheese, sunflower oil, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, onion, potatoes, beans and lentil, sugar, fresh vegetable herbs, fizzy drinks, coffee, rakia, wines.
There were drops in the prices of dry sweets, pasta, meat from cattle and poultry, minced meat, white cheese, eggs, margarine, citrus fruits, dry vegetable herbs, ready-made meals, mineral water and beer.
As regards non-food products, there were increases in the prices of cigarettes, wood for heating, refrigerators and freezers, air conditioners, cleaning machines, new cars, road taxes (vignette stickers), cinema, theatre and concerts, holiday packages, restaurant and cafe services, short-term accommodation, personal hygiene products.
The prices of clothing and shoes, fuels, furniture, detergents, passenger air transport, medical products recorded a drop.
The prices of medical and dental services increased by 0.1%.
