Three companies join Sofia Tech Park
The first large-scale state project in support of innovation and new technologies in Bulgaria, Sofia Tech Park, is already attracting interest. A year after the project was launched, three companies have shown interest in building their own premises or renting ones in the future park.
Bulgaria's Walltopia, which is a global leader in the production of climbing walls, received an A class investor certificate on Friday for its 15 million leva project. The company is going to build a multifunctional sports and culture center, Walltopia Collider Activity Center, in the park.
US-Bulgarian software developer Haemimond is planning the construction of premises with a total area of some 8,000 sq. m and an investment similar to Walltopia's. The building will house a modern data center for cloud services. The project will build on an experimental infrastructure version that the company started in 2011 with EU financing.
Germany's semi-conductor maker ZMDI is considering renting premises in Sofia Tech Park. Currently the company has design and development centers in Varna and Sofia, which are going to be moved to the new location.
Sofia Tech Park is financed with 42.5 million euro under the Competitiveness Operative Program. Another 7.5 million euro is provided by the Bulgarian budget as co-financing. The park will be located on a 27-hectare plot near the city center and has to be completed by the end of 2015.
