The Industrial Production Index increased by 0.7% in August 2022 from July, according to preliminary seasonally adjusted data released by the National Statistical Institute on Monday. The August 2022 index increased by 16.05% compared to the same month of 2021, according to calendar adjusted preliminary data.
Compared to July 2022, an increase was registered in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (1.5%) and in manufacturing (1.2%), while a decrease was observed in the mining and quarrying industry (7.6%).
In manufacturing, a notable increase was seen in the manufacture of tobacco products (17.1%), in the production of foods (11.4%), in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (10.9%), and in repair works and assembly of machinery and equipment (9.3%).
Drops were registered in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (11.6%), of computer, electronic and optical products (10.3%), manufacture of vehicles other than cars (8.5%), furniture production (also 8.5%), etc.
Compared to August 2021, and according to calendar adjusted data, an increase was reported in the electricity, gas, steam (51.3%), and in manufacturing (12.7%), while a drop is reported in the mining and quarrying industry (5.7%).
In manufacturing, a more significant year-on-year increase was observed in the manufacture of: vehicles other than cars (68.3%), of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (42.1%), of beverages (41.9%), other manufacturing (33.3%), and of tobacco products (32.6%).
Decreases were reported in the manufacture of drug substances and products (14.2%), of chemical products (13.7), among others.
