The exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU in 2022 increased by 35.6% compared to 2021 and amounted to BGN 61,380.4 million, while the imports of goods from the EU grew by 29.3% and reached BGN 59,899.6 million, preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute show.
The largest growth in the exports of goods to the EU in the period was recorded for animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (126.0%) and mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials (116.9%), while a decrease was reported for commodities and Transactions n.e.c. (74.4%) and beverages and tobacco (9.8%).
The largest growth in the imports of goods from the EU was recorded for animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (81.8%) and mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials (63%).
Bulgaria's main trading partners were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, France and Spain, which accounted for 66.9% of the exports to the EU Member States.
Exports to the EU increased by 11.6% in December 2022 compared to a year earlier and amounted to BGN 4,350.4 million, while imports grew by 9.0% and added up to BGN 4,897.7 million.
The exports of goods from Bulgaria to non-EU countries in January 2023 increased by 24.4% in comparison with January 2022 and added up to BGN 2,634.4 million, while the imports of goods from third countries grew by 0.8% for the same period and reached BGN 3,539 million, show preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute published on Monday.
The most notable growth in exports of goods compared to January 2022 was recorded in the sections "Machinery and transport equipment" (99.5%) and “Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes” (92.5%). The most notable fall - by 30.2% - was reported in the section "Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)".
The largest growth in imports of goods compared to January 2022 was recorded in the sections "Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (391.0%) and “Beverages and tobacco" (33.7%). The most notable decrease was reported in the section "Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material" (19.3%).
The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkiye, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the United States, Gibraltar, Switzerland, and Serbia, which accounted for 54.0% of the exports to non-EU countries. The largest amounts of goods imported to Bulgaria came from Russia, Turkiye, China, and Ukraine.
