The amendments to the Energy Act – “stabilizing and urgent”

The Minister of Economy and Energy, Dragomir Stoynev, has defined the amendments to the Energy Act, which were adopted on the second reading, as “stabilizing and urgent”. Our will to establish rules for transparency into the energy sector and put an end to the exhaustion of the Bulgarian energy system is unconditional. Currently, we should have the opportunity to reach an acceptable price for the consumers – both the people and the businesses; on the other hand, we should provide revenues and refunds of the financial flow into the energy system, which has been recently blocked by the inner indebtedness.

The state of the National Electricity Company (NEK) is critical due to its accumulative debts of 1.9 billion BGN. By the order of Minister Stoynev this week the Electricity System Operator (ESO) will start a procedure of registering the new Statute and changing the ownership of the shares, which will result in transferring the shares to their new owner – the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH).

The Minister has addressed his appeal to the political parties, who refuse to work in the Parliament, and to the extra-parliamentary parties, to state objectively and responsibly their positions regarding the amendments to the acts as well as to define the state of the sector.

“I wish to address all the protestants who demand and press the Parliament: this bill is particularly necessary. People should know what they spend their money for. Least but not last, there must be justice. This system has been really exhausted. This bill guarantees that there will be jobs for everyone in the energy sector and it is necessary, as the households in Bulgaria should not be burdened”.
