Bulgarian government report: Women in management positions on the rise


The number of women in management positions in Bulgaria is increasing, but is still fewer than men, according to the 2023 Equality Report, approved at an October 15 meeting of the caretaker government.

In 2023, the number of women in management positions in Bulgaria reached 68 000, a total of 3200 more than in 2022.

Last year, the percentage of women who are part of management boards increased from 14.8 per cent to 18.3 per cent.

Bulgaria’s gender pay gap in 2022 was 13 per cent in favour of men, according to the report.

The report says that last year the employment rate for women aged 15-64 was 67.4 per cent and for men 73.9 per cent.

There was also a difference in the average amount of the pension for length of service and age.

For men, it was 942 leva, and for women 765 leva. However, women received a pension for an average of 27.6 years, which is more than seven years more than men.

In 2023, the average insurance income was 1445.55 leva. For men, it was 1488.15 leva, 6.2 per cent more than for women, the report said.
