Bulgaria is third in the European Union in copper production and should take advantage of its strategic position, said Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stoyanov Tuesday at the opening of the Automotive & Battery Forum 2023.
Minister Stoyanov stressed that the automotive sector is undergoing key transformations that will mark the future of the sector in the coming decades. He highlighted that European companies are currently looking for opportunities to bring back key production from Asia back to Europe and that the growing importance of battery production and the development of electric mobility. In his words, Bulgaria has a lot to offer for European companies to respond to both transformations in the sector. Stoyanov said that as an EU member state with a key geographic position both for the Balkans and the Middle East, Bulgaria is also among the leading countries in the extraction of a number of metals that are of importance for the automotive industry and battery production.
