Bulgaria continues with efforts to find fair texts on Mobility Package I

“We continue our efforts to find texts on the Mobility Package I that are fair for the transport sector”, said the Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Rossen Jeliazkov, in Bucharest, where the Informal Council of the European Union Ministers of Transport was held.

After a joint meeting with Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, discussing the development of the Mobility I package and a meeting with Romania's Transport Minister Alexandru Cook, Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said that concrete strategic steps for future actions on the Mobility Package would be taken. Joint work will be done to expand the consensus-building group. "We once again united on the idea that in a short timeframe and under pressure there is no basis for good European legislation. During the meeting with the Romanian Presidency, we confirmed our common position that possible trialogues could not be carried out in the limited time resource of this European Parliament. The main focus of the talks was to give the next Parliament the chance to reach balanced solutions”, the Bulgarian Minister said. In his words, the Romanian Presidency shares fully the arguments put forward by the Bulgarian side in the Mobility Package I, saying they would follow the development of the files without taking hasty action.

Minister Rossen Jeliazkov also commented that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov also held a high-level correspondence with the Prime Ministers of Greece, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia and Croatia, as well as with the leaders of the EPP parties from these countries with request to support our efforts to extend the debates on the Mobility Package I. “This has had a serious impact on the withdrawal of the European Parliament's Agenda and will probably have a serious impact in the future on the drafting of more balanced and fair texts”, said Rossen Jeliazkov. He also said that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov thanked European Parliament President Antonio Tajani for accepting the arguments of the Bulgarian side and the same-minded countries for returning the Review Package to Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism.
