Agriculture Minister Vatev discusses farm trade development with Egyptian Ambassador Emara

Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Minister Kiril Vatev discussed the development of two-way trade in agricultural goods with Egypt's Ambassador in Sofia Khalid Ibrahim Emara, Vatev's Ministry said in a press release. The two commented on opportunities for increasing Bulgarian grain and fruit exports to Egypt.

Vatev pointed to the need of exploring options for broader commercial exchanges and lower logistic costs. He added that agricultural science in Bulgaria, highly developed by the Agricultural Academy, provides a solid foundation to build on cooperation in that area.

Emara showed interest in the possibility to export apples, cherries, strawberries and bio fertilizers to the Egyptian market, in addition to grain crops, and in deepening partner business relations. He suggested the idea of Bulgaria setting up a centre for the storage and distribution of Egyptian agricultural products in order to shorten supply chains in food trade.

"We want to look east, too, and seek opportunities for increasing the sale of Bulgarian produce on the Arab markets. To this end, we rely on a deeper future partnership with Egypt," Vatev pointed out.
