Employment Agency: 5.3% unemployment in Bulgaria in August


The unemployment rate in August stood at 5.3%, the Employment Agency reported here on Monday. At the end of the month, 150,709 people were listed as unemployed, while 11,523 started new jobs. Additionally, 383 retirees, students, and employed persons found work through labour offices.

Thanks to the efforts of Roma and youth mediators, as well as labour intermediaries at labour offices, over 3,200 inactive individuals in the labour market were activated in August.

Representatives of at-risk groups who found employment through subsidized jobs in August numbered 2,040.

The most sought-after professions by businesses in August were teachers, care personnel, workers in the mining and processing industries, and those in the construction and transport sectors.

In July, the registered unemployment rate in the country was 5.4%.

The unemployment rate is calculated as the share of registered unemployed individuals from the economically active population aged 15-64, as determined by the 2021 census.
