Regular meeting of the EU Club with BCCI on the occasion of the assumed by Greece rotating presidency to the EU Council

The EU Club with BCCI gathered at a regular meeting, reporting the results of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council and discussing the priorities Greece will take up as of 1st January 2014 with its Presidency of the Community. Members of the EU Club are diplomats, representatives of the business, media etc.

The President of the Chamber – Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, who led the meeting, pointed out that Greece has already started to overcome its financial problems, emerging not for once from crisis situations, and voiced confidence that it will successfully meet the new challenge of the EU Council Presidency. He noted that the Greek EU Presidency coincides with the presidency of the Association of Balkan Chambers from the Union of the Greek Chambers of Commerce and wished the Greek colleagues success in this challenge as well. 

After Charge d’Affaires of the Lithuanian Embassy H.E. Mr. Darius Gaidys presented the results achieved during the period of the Lithuanian EU Presidency, the Ambassador of Greece, H.E. Mr. Dimostenis Stoidis announced the priorities Greece will take up with the presidency of the Community for the next six months. He stated that the priorities of the Greek Presidency include tackling the unemployment and promoting the youth employment, increasing the lending capacity of the European Investment Bank in order to enhance the investments in the sectors of high output. Dealing with the financial and economic crisis in the Eurozone, and completing the new architecture of the Economic and Monetary Union will certainly remain priorities for the rotating EU presidency in coming years, including for the Greek one. The Greek Presidency will also focus efforts onto the management of the processes of migration. It is planned to manage migration in favor of encouraging growth, at the same time on the measures to solve the problems caused by the illegal migration, for a social cohesion and political stability. Maritime policies will also be priorities for the Greek Presidency and it is expected to implement a Strategy for the development of the maritime activities.
